It seems like only seconds ago that I was sitting at this keyboard writing yesterday’s post. Here we are on a Tuesday planning to go to Matinee Monday a day late. My wife wants to see Respect, the Aretha Franklin movie. When I think of A-R-E-T-H-A, the tune Who’s Zoomin’ Who immediately comes to mind, reminiscent of the Four Asses at the Four Aces. It was one of those out of the way taverns where Animal, Clark, Peter, and Smiley laughed the night away over beers and shots of Dickel. On the drive home, this tune came on the radio and we teased about bulging pants as the song climaxed with what in our minds sounded like a giant zipper being undone. It was silly schoolboy humor fueled by alcohol so you had to be there to understand. Most likely you wouldn’t!

“Sock it to me” was another of “The Queen of Soul’s” famous song phrases that eluded to sex. I’ve seen her perform several times – the last time sadly she was quite heavy and carried an oxygen tank – hardly a sexual goddess. She was a smoker but apparently thought that air conditioning had more of an adverse affect on her voice and as a result her audiences often sat in sweltering heat. I will obviously learn more about her in the theatre this afternoon. On the way home, we’ll pick up our lighting fixtures that finally came in and will require the hiring of an electrician to get installed. We also bought a chandelier that was hauled here from Portland and is currently sitting in our garage.

Tomorrow several crews will be working on various warranty issues around the house, including a chipped countertop, window scratches, and removing some bathroom mirrors that we did not order. Hopefully, we’ll soon get everything in the house the way we want it. The expansion of our driveway and entry area will take place next month. Then, we’ll eventually add some new features like the outdoor kitchen, built-in shelving, and customized master closet. In the meantime, we’ll just have to show a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T for what we have!
