I spent four hours yesterday with car troubles. First, a call to AAA and then trips to Auto Zone and Jiffy Lube, all because I let my car sit too long. In the process, my battery died and the oil pan gasket deteriorated. It was the longest stretch of time that I’ve spent solo in the past few months and certainly the most driving I’ve done. I’ll be sure to get it out of the garage more often going forward.

This morning didn’t “start” much better with computer problems. The screen was frozen and delayed my writing ambitions. There was a brief moment of panic, wondering what I would do with myself without a computer. I’d rather be in Bali, writing on the beach! If it weren’t for this pan-damn-ic, that’s where we would be this morning, stretching our legs after a full day of flying. I guess those engines started without us, or maybe not at all? We did, at least, get our money back.

Speaking of engines not starting, it’s May in Indianapolis without racing. This affects many of my friends from either a business or fan standpoint. The famous phrase, “Gentlemen (and ladies) start your engines,” will now wait until August. Other races around the country will apparently start without fans. Baseball, on the other hand, is set to start in July with a shortened season. College football will also optimistically begin without fans in August, while the NFL plans for no interruptions of their season with the exception of perhaps fan access. At least, there will be live sports to watch on TV. ESPN will finally have something else than The Last Dance in the way of programming.

I’m cooking wings tonight for dinner, with memories of “Leadership Meetings” at Buffalo Wild Wings. I did use my waiting time yesterday to reconnect with a few friends that under normal circumstances would be sharing pitchers of cold beer. At any rate, the engine is now running and the computer is fully functioning, so I can now get back to the quarantine routine. Maybe, I’ll continue writing my murder novel or do another jig-saw puzzle that just arrived in the mail? Nonetheless, another day has started! Zoom…Zoom…
