Today is “lunch” day, commonly known in the working world as Friday. Since I’ve been traveling, I’m combining it with “cleaning” day, if nothing more than to show some sense of ambition. (See Post #66) My wife returns from her business trip today, so that afforded me an opportunity to sleep an extra hour or so this morning. She also put a little extra money in my account because it’s “pay day” for her. It’s looking like another good day for everyone, retired or not.
I got 5.5 miles in this morning, and have my foot on ice, hoping to curb some heel pain that I’ve been experiencing. Only 14 days to go until race day, with next week to be my hardest week of training before tapering-off. I went a little further up that hill today and maybe next week I can conquer it. A light day of running yesterday seemed to provide me with extra energy this morning, as the uphill climbs seemed more comfortable than the downhill sections. A couple of light days simply to maintain my current streak of 3,148 consecutive days will hopefully give me a similar surge of energy come race day.
The re-connections continue, as I just checked-in with a former co-worker that I haven’t talked to in nearly 15 years. He tried to contact me at the AT&T ballpark in San Francisco the other night through Face Book, having noticed my post of the scoreboard. Unfortunately, he had an old phone number, so an attempt to text me failed, and we were unable to get together. This is the second time this year that I’ve run across old friends at a baseball game. (See Post #157) In this case, however, we missed each other, and had to connect via phone. He lives in Indiana, so I’ll try to hook-up with him when we travel to the Midwest later this year. In the meantime, I’ll continue to watch his family grow-up through the magic of social media.
I keep forgetting that my 66th birthday is coming up. We’ll celebrate with a night at Cannon Beach, once I get the 17.2 miles of Hood to Coast running behind me. Just getting to the finish line will be cause to celebrate this year, even though another birthday really means nothing to me. I’ve achieved all my Senior Citizen discounts, so growing any older doesn’t provide any incentives.
A restful evening in store tonight – maybe rent a movie? Polo and Bruce Hornsby tomorrow. We also need to work in the movie, Dunkirk. The house is at least clean for my wife’s return, despite a little day drinking at Buffalo Wild Wings. It’s good to be retired and to find old friends!
