It’s too bad life doesn’t come with an “Undo” button.  If you make a mistake, just like on a Word document, you could immediately correct it.  Take a wrong step in life, and it’s not permanent, just push the “Undo” button.  Staples offers us an “Easy” button, so why not “Undo?”  When I play Spider Solitaire, I can hit “Undo” and try some different options, so why not the game of life?  I supposed there would need to be rules like how often it could be used, maybe establish a lifetime limit, and like time travel alterations to history would not be allowed.  Once the rules are established, there would probably also need to be an “Undo” commissioner, rules committees, monitors, enforcers, and judges all with “Undo the Undo” buttons.

Some “Undo” buttons would probably show a lot of wear on top.  In fact, you might not be able to make out the word “Undo” any more.  I suppose there would also be malfunctions of the button that would require sending it in for service.  You’d have to live carefully, until it was fixed, or borrow one from a friend who never makes mistakes.  Theft would undoubtedly be a problem, too.  Has anyone seen my “Undo” button?  It was just here a few minutes ago.  I was hoping to “Undo” what I just did, but I can’t find it!

Pushing the right buttons are an important part of life.  I’d also like to have an “Un-due” button, and be able to change the dates on when my bills were due.  I could delay payments or not pay them at all, depending on how many times that button was pushed.   Between the “Undo” and “Un-due,” button options, I could lead a very comfortable existence.  There would be no worry about paying bills or making decisions, eliminating two of the biggest problems in life.  Traffic accidents would occur but be quickly corrected, silly injuries could be erased, and stupid people would be given a second chance to make a bad decision.  People that claim to never make errors could donate their undos to charity.  I’m certain there would also be “Undo” or “Un-due” button counterfeiters, so if yours was lost or stolen, you could buy one on the black market. You might even want to buy a back-up button or two for additional security. These might be called “Re-do” buttons.

Any “to-do” list could be re-done, dating would be much easier, and divorces would simply be called re-dos.  Employees  could be fired, press “Undo,” and be rehired just like that.  Slogans like “Just Do It!” could be changed to “Just Undo It!” by hitting a button and “Do Do” could be redone.  “Doing it” could done over and over again, and you could “Undo” any mistakes in the process.  There would also be no such thing as done.  As an added benefit, frequent button pushers would never age unless they wanted to, and you could live in the moment forever.

What things in life would I “Undo?”  I’ve made a few mistakes, but find myself concerned about how the alternative choice might have turned out.  Sometimes, mistakes evolve into valuable lessons, as they have many times in my lifetime.  They influence the next choice that I make.  Buttons are fun to think about, but decisions with consequences is what makes life challenging.  Making buttoned-up decisions defines our character and provides satisfaction in making good choices.  An “Undo” button would make life “Easy.”  Who would want that?
