Retirement is not without Hassles: Begets #419

Whether it be Monty Python, Shakespeare, or The Bible,” flowery phraseology can define the era in which we live. In present times, for example, if someone asks,”wherefore art thou?” you might naturally respond,”you ain’t from these parts, are ya?”  Or, you might think they were being funny, and answer, “Perchance thou art from afar?”  In the course of the conversation, you might also detect accents and phrases that distinguish nationality or region of origin. Greetings like “Y’all” or “Howdy” might give you a clue. However, when you hear the word “begets” in a modern sentence, you’re not quite sure what to think?

In the movie, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, you learn that “Anger Begets Anger.” It’s just not the kind of sentence structure you expect to hear in the Midwest, especially from a “not so bright” young lady. As a result, the phrase really makes you “bethink.” She explains that the words were found it on a bookmark, and “forsooth” it then makes sense. You can’t picture her as smart enough to read a book, let alone interject such a profound statement, so the whole scene is funny. It comes from a Mahavira quote, “Anger begets more anger, and forgiveness and love lead to more forgiveness and love.” What was once a religious philosophy is now worthy of a bookmark or a t-shirt. Whether it comes to billboards, bookmarks, or t-shirts there is a need to be succinct with what you “sayeth.”

I’ve had a rather busy week, so activity also “begets” more activity. Two concerts, two movies, wine racking, a dental appointment, leadership meals and furniture moving are all leading up to the Super Bowl Sabbath and a Steamboat ski trip. Blogging had to take a back seat this week as “my time” has been a scarce commodity. A friend and I did spend some time together comparing notes on Word Press, so my blog is now enhanced with easy category access, internal links to related stories, and a few pictures. I will be traveling all month, so expect less attention to my daily writing. The good news is that I will be certainly enjoying a lot of new experiences that I will share later, as adventure “begets” storytelling.

I love the new navigation with Categories and internal links. Great job! Good to see that you set up a Category for your poems…they deserve it.
