In these pandemic times, our feet are beginning to gain more respect. People are afraid to touch things with their fingers anymore, so we’re using other body parts to comply with their health concerns. Butts are used more to open doors, elbows are getting creative use, and feet are doing new jobs. I saw, for example, in a recent World Series game where a foot tap (low-five) replaced the traditional high-five. Elbows rather than handshakes are the new way to greet people. Butt bumps are the closest thing to a hug.

Manufacturers are now offering foot controls to open doors. Dirty feet are suddenly preferable to even sanitized hands. Our often overlooked feet are doing more than just keeping us upright and mobile, although toes will probably never pass fingers in popularity. Feet are rarely allowed to go around naked like hands, but this could become a whole new trend. We could be on the verge of becoming a feet-first society, hands down. All in favor please raise your feet! No more hand-outs or even being handy.

Feet have always been at the forefront of fashion. Hands get most of the attention when it comes to jewelry, although toe rings are popular but not quite as fancy. As we begin to pay more respect to our feet, this too will change. Hands are starting to lose their appeal and will be covered-up more in the future. After all, they spread disease and are no longer good for a greeting! They should not be seen in public. Keep them to yourselves please!
