We went to two movies this week to get out of the rain. It’s been one of the wettest January on record and we’ve seen five since returning from Florida. Our Regal Unlimited annual pass is starting to pay-off, although it’s resulted in several odd encounters with the homeless. Yesterday, I was standing in the rain waiting for the streetcar while a man sipping on a bottle of whisky hogged the covered bench. An elderly couple not much older than me urged him to move over so she could sit down and endure his flammable, intolerable breath. He did at least offer her a sip! In this case, it was just rude behavior rather than the scam we experienced the other evening (See Post #1199).

Our double feature this week included Bombshell and Just Mercy. We enjoyed both with strong messages about sexual harassment and discrimination. There were characters that were infuriating and Academy nominated performances. With other commitments, we’ll not have time for a movie today, but will continue watching Season 4 of Better Call Saul – “Saul’s Good Man!” My wife is seriously studying all the movies, hoping to do some betting when we’re in Vegas in a few weeks. Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx were shown “no mercy” through their Oscar committee snubs, while the “bombshells” got several nods. In fact, all 20 nominations went to white actors this year.

I sent a birthday message to my now teenage grandson this morning. He’s the oldest of three that I’ll get more time with when we move to Florida next year. My wife is now considering Casey Key that is not too far from their home, while I still tend to favor Tampa. It’s her call as the beach beacons and she wants to be as close as possible. We’re tired of the rain here in Portland and anxious for our upcoming travels to Las Vegas and Phoenix, where there should be more sunshine. It’s our next “double feature.”
