I once again had to shorten my run yesterday to accommodate the movers, but it was back to the routine 5k this morning. Probably half of our belongings are now unpacked with another 60 boxes filling the garage. A few broken items have already been spotted, but for the most part our stuff survived the long haul. I did run in my orthotics for the first time in a month-and-a-half, so I felt like my feet got a little more support. It was seventy-three degrees with 90% humidity and a notable breeze. I first noticed the wind as I was trying to sneak a few cardboard and paper items into a nearby dumpster last night. Gusts sent plastic bottles and scraps into the nearby yards, but mine was heavy enough to stay in place. I’ll be doing a few more late night dumps, trying to avoid a fine from the Homeowners Association or an Alice’s Restaurant situation.

We took a dinner break last night and went to Cracker Barrell, but soon found ourselves back home unpacking “just one more box” before the first night in our comfortable, familiar, King-sized bed. Matching nightstands rather than boxes were on both sides. My wife could actually get out of bed on her side for the first time in 17-months, since the massive furniture filled our tiny apartment master. There were also no footsteps or noises above or traffic sounds on the streets below to keep her awake. Most of our new neighbors have their lights out long before I take Tally out at 10p, so it’s peaceful at last. Home Sweet Home.

We’ll make it more of a home once we get all these boxes unpacked. We’re also scrambling to find cabinet keys and shelving supports to get some of the smaller collector items safely out of the way. We’ll have plenty of space for everything once we get organized. No more storage cages or loaners to friends and family. We’ll finally have all our stuff in one place. We bought six new decorative rugs to protect the sealed tile floors, and may even go get a shovel today, since we gave away most of our outdoor tools after living in condos and apartments the last ten years. I feel refreshed after a good night’s sleep, run, swim, and putting a few words on the page, so I’m now ready to dig back into that daunting mountain of boxes.
