I’m obviously stressed about all the upcoming events related to closing on our new house. Sleeping was impossible with nightmares about missing documents, funds, and an unfinished house. The movers were here early and our apartment was utter chaos. In reality, I woke up early to call the Eastern time zone bank to get the final paperwork to satisfy the loan, but their firm 10-business day policy will require me to call back again on Monday. It’s been a frustrating process, knowing that a significant chunk of money has already been prepaid to the builders, and although the loan has received “final” approval, new requirements keep popping up. I can’t ever remember such an ordeal, but always before there there were work issues to keep us distracted. Being retired, this is the only project and our sole focus.

This morning’s run #4471 helped calm me down a bit, while a Zoom Leadership Lunch and then dinner with friends will help the day pass quickly. Tomorrow, it’s basketball and a return to Buffalo Wild Wings. Sunday is Tally’s spa appointment followed by a visit from Falco. Soon, it will be Monday morning and another early call to the bank. Movers will also retrieve some of our possessions from storage and bring them to the apartment in preparation for loading on the big truck to Florida. A final visit with my doctor will take place that afternoon and closing paperwork should arrive for notarized signature on Wednesday. Tuesday is the dentist for me, an eye appointment for my wife, and the rescheduled home inspection. I will cook my final dinner in Portland and maybe we’ll get a peaceful night’s rest before the disruption of packing and loading begins. No more nightmares please!

A week from tonight we should be fully moved out and at the downtown Portland Residence Inn. The following morning we start our cross-country drive to the land of sunshine. There will be overnight stops in Utah, Colorado, and Missouri, along with the hassle of having to wire the money to the mortgage company. We’ll stay a few days in Indianapolis with family and meet more relatives in Atlanta. The stress will probably ease some once we start unpacking and get our new house set up. I long for this all to be over and for a dip in the pool. In the meantime, there will probably be more nightmares.
