I keep getting my sequential numbers mixed up. This is number 1,842 over a five-year span, but I had somehow labeled it with the wrong number. Is this a sign of senility, poor eyesight, or just being in a rush to finish the post? It’s hard to come up with a fresh topic every day, so I have a tendency to simply ramble. There are no houseguests today to interfere with my routine, even though I might enjoy the distraction. My wife’s niece and her boyfriend aren’t due for a few days, but we were instructed to buy some Voodoo Ranger Pale Ale. My wife is the consummate hostess, planning every detail for our guests, while I like to remain flexible. In other words, I’m too lazy to properly prepare for company, otherwise I’m too exhausted when they finally arrive.

All that sweeping, dusting, and shopping to get everything just right is hard work. I can only hope that others don’t go to this trouble for my arrival at their home. I prefer the kind of company that just drops by unexpectedly and brings their own fun. Anticipation is overrated and this is the difference between my wife and I. She likes all the preparation, from meal planning to getting out the fancy pillows. The details are important to her, while I often just try to stay out of the way.  Our dog Tally is undoubtedly  more helpful  than I am when it comes to entertaining.

I actually have some yard work to do today. With my wife’s rib injury, I will be moving some plants in our flower beds out front. It will be a rare moment of others seeing me use a shovel, as most of the outdoor maintenance is handled by the HOA. I moved some brick pavers yesterday to help prevent rain washout from our downspouts, so there are a few simple homeowner tasks here and there to perform as we continue to get settled. It’s been six months now since we relocated to Florida and moved into our new home. We continue to enjoy the retirement life.
